Eating Disorders1 essays

Eating Disorders1 articles In late history, the possibility of female excellence has been moving toward a less sound, excessively slender model. Over 25,000 years back when people previously developed, ladies misrepresented their regenerative organs, similar to bosoms and hips, utilizing richness images. Thin ladies were not viewed as lovely since they didn't appear to be sufficiently sound to support and raise a family, or endure the winter. Thin ladies were additionally viewed as poor, since they couldn't manage the cost of enough food to keep their body full and solid. During the Renaissance time, wonderful artworks from world well known craftsmen, including Michelangelo, highlighted full-figured ladies. Full figures kept on being famous all through the Mannerism and Baroque periods, which proceeded up through the 1730's. In the mid-1700's, ladies' figures began to change. The ladies started to wear supports, clamping up their midriff to misrepresent their bends. The supports were excruciating however ladie s needed to get their midriff as little as could be expected under the circumstances. In the 1900's, midsections turned out to be significantly littler. The Roaring 20's carried radical changes to ladies and their bodies. Little youngsters called flappers got mainstream. They wore their hair short and innocent, wore turned out stockings and short, loose dresses uncovering their arms and legs. They were characterized as rebels, and humiliated the more established age by the manner in which they dressed and acted. They wouldn't be cultured, and they were wild. Twiggy was the most well known design model in the 1960's, named for her ultra-flimsy body. She uncovered increasingly more of her stick-like body to the camera, and enlivened different young ladies to become like her, since she was mainstream, extraordinary, and wild. The super-thin picture is as yet depicted today, despite the fact that it isn't solid. In the mid 1990's a magazine feature read, You Can Never Be Too Thin. A few ladies actually accepted this, and passed on of starvation and experienced anorexia nervosa. Adolescents are straightforwardly focused on becau... <!

Essay Sample on Nationalism

Consequences of Nationalism. Free Essay Sample Describe the consequences of nationalism The affection, responsibility and an inclination to sacrifice for the country is defined as nationalism. Nationalism can have both positive and negative impact on the country depending on the type of nationalism such as Ethnic nationalism, Civic nationalism, Liberal nationalism, Expansionist nationalism, and so on. Most of these types have their own benefits and some of them can be unfavorable at the same time. Nationalism saw prominence only in the 19th century due to the formation of many nations that did not exist in the early 18th century. Many nations co-relate nationalism directly to racism, and the people in such countries are programmed to act accordingly. Nationalism has seen many negative consequences; however among the positive ones are: development of an organized society, the elaboration of non-corruptive government, elaboration and public spirit and sense of pride for the nation. Nationalism in some states is considered to be a political principle, wherein the radical and general units of the nation are harmonious. Nationalism sometimes breaks down in personal matters, when the political issues of the states arise. The nationals, in such situations emphasize on the state affairs rather than working as a unit for the nation. It is believed that some factors that categorize nationalism are beliefs on religion, linguistic, history of the nation, and tribalism. A few negative consequences of nationalism have led to war and manslaughter, since sometimes it becomes a prerequisite for conflicting forces that pose a danger to the nation. Opinion poll shows that the economic condition of the nation plays an important part in the nationalism development. People with positive nationalism are easy-going and open to accept others due to their morals about good citizenship and social integrity.

What is the Definition of a Composite Material

Loosely defined, a composite is a combination of two or more different materials that results in a superior (often stronger) product. Humans have been creating composites for thousands of years to build everything from simple shelters to elaborate electronic devices. While the first composites were made from natural materials like mud and straw, todays composites are created in a lab from synthetic substances. Regardless of their origin, composites are what have made life as we know it possible. A Brief History Archaeologists say humans have been using composites for at least 5,000 to 6,000 years. In ancient Egypt, bricks made from mud and straw to encase and reinforce wooden structures such as forts and monuments. In parts of Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, indigenous cultures build structures from wattle (planks or strips of wood) and daub (a composite of mud or clay, straw, gravel, lime, hay, and other substances). Another advanced civilization, the Mongols, were also pioneers in the use of composites. Beginning around 1200 A.D., they began building reinforced bows out of wood, bone, and natural adhesive, wrapped with birch bark. These were far more powerful and accurate than simple wooden bows, helping Genghis Khans Mongolian Empire to spread across Asia. The modern era of composites began in the 20th century with the invention of early plastics such as Bakelite and vinyl as well as engineered wood products like plywood. Another crucial composite, Fiberglas, was invented in 1935. It was far stronger than earlier composites, could be molded and shaped, and was extremely lightweight and durable.   World War II hastened the invention of still more petroleum-derived composite materials, many of which are still in use today, including polyester. The 1960s saw the introduction of even more sophisticated composites, such as Kevlar and carbon fiber.   Modern Composite Materials Today,  the use of composites has evolved to commonly incorporate a structural fiber and a plastic, this is known as Fiber Reinforced Plastics or FRP for short. Like straw, the fiber provides the structure and strength of the composite, while a plastic polymer holds the fiber together. Common types of fibers used in FRP composites include: FiberglassCarbon fiberAramid fiberBoron fiberBasalt fiberNatural fiber (wood, flax, hemp, etc.) In the case of fiberglass, hundreds of thousands of tiny glass fibers are compiled together and held rigidly in place by a plastic polymer resin. Common plastic resins used in composites include: EpoxyVinyl EsterPolyesterPolyurethanePolypropylene Common Uses and Benefits The most common example of a composite is concrete. In this use, structural steel rebar provides the strength and stiffness to the concrete, while the cured cement holds the rebar stationary. Rebar alone would flex too much and cement alone would crack easily. However, when combined to form a composite, an extremely rigid material is created. The composite material most commonly associated with the term composite is Fiber Reinforced Plastics. This type of composite is used extensively throughout our daily lives. Common everyday uses of fiber reinforced plastic composites include: AircraftBoats and marineSporting equipment (golf shafts, tennis rackets, surfboards, hockey sticks, etc.)Automotive componentsWind turbine bladesBody armorBuilding materialsWater pipesBridgesTool handlesLadder rails Modern composite materials have a number of advantages over other materials such as steel. Perhaps most importantly, composites are much lighter in weight. They also resist corrosion, are flexible and dent-resistant. This, in turn, means they require less maintenance and have a longer lifespan than traditional materials. Composite materials make cars lighter and therefore more fuel efficient, make body armor more resistant to bullets and make turbine blades that can withstand the stress of high wind speeds. Gambling Addiction Essay - 1116 Words

Gambling Addiction Gambling addiction is an issue found in numerous areas where gambling is legal. People who are addicted to gambling, also know as problem gamblers, face many health risks including depression, suicidal thoughts, loss of sleep, loss of appetite, migraine and anxiety in addition to marriage breakdown, problems at work and bankruptcy (9). About 2 percent of adults are thought to be problem gamblers (1). In today’s society this costly addiction is not often considered to be a common problem among those who gamble. Only a small amount of states in the U.S. give enough attention toward this rising problem of people that are sometimes even willing to commit crimes just to aid their addiction. In the past our†¦show more content†¦I think that a sufficient amount of all the extra revenue in each state should be spent on clinics since gambling addiction is an economic problem that comes directly from legalized gambling. The extra revenue could be the answer to having enough cli nics to meet the rising need. Another solution to the problem of gambling addiction is more ordinance and restriction laws. These laws regulate every aspect that limits gambling. Without enough of them a state’s gambling industry could increase quickly bringing a rise of gambling addiction rate along with it. Ordinance laws are state laws that protect areas and buildings from having gambling machines. Without enough ordinance laws, it can be legal to place slot machines around public facilities, such as, schools and churches. This allows easy access to children. Almost 1 percent of the population has serious gambling problems, but the rate is twice as high in adolescents (9). Experts in adolescent compulsive behavior say between 14 and 15 percent of all adolescents who gamble by playing poker will eventually become compulsive gamblers (11). When children have access to gambling machines it increases their chance of developing a gambling addiction in their future. Therefore, I think that every state that has legalized gambling should also have good ordinance laws to keep gambling out of places where childrenShow MoreRelatedGambling Addiction : Illegal Gambling2199 Words   |  9 PagesGambling Addiction Walking into the flashing lights, the happy people and seeing people win; are all the start of a bad beginning. Analysis Of Team Challenges and Strategies †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Analysis Of Team Challenges and Strategies. Answer: Prompt: In this modernized world with diverse organizations working towards gaining benefits globally, it becomes necessary to work as a team, united by a common goal. Thesis: Strategies and managerial implications are the key words in establishing a successful foundation with a good market position. A team comprises of different individuals with as expected diverse views due to cultural and behavioral diversities. Blueprint: This essay or analysis sets an insight on team challenges and strategies to manage the same in Ivey Executive MBA program (Iveycases.com 2017). Various collections of data determine the methodologies and the success plan towards the set goal. Three Key Issues Identified in the Case: Jake Santora, after duration of almost ten years, is all set to imply his self-experiences and categorized strategies to the EMBA program, a set up aiming for executive development. This person seemed to be elated and simultaneously worried about certain challenges that could prevail in the team, comprising of members, who are geographically diverse (Allen and Ofahengaue Vakalahi 2013). With the plan of four-day weekend per month, it is well deduced by Santora that it would be a challenge for the other 26 days to manage as team virtually, he having been a part of a cross-functional team in Asia. Formerly, by the term, virtual team comprising of geographically diverse members it is meant the collaboration of individuals separated by work, space and time while united by web interactions via technological support. Thinking of effectively managing the virtual team, the global trend of todays world, certain issues emerged out that needed management (Curry 2015). Firstly, the issue of compatibility surfaced, which indeed is a priority to have a unity in work-process. Here the concern was about the computing support available to the members of the virtual team. Applying segregation to the issue, it was about the Windows and Apple based computers, with a series of software applications operating. The witnessed challenge oriented with this issue was the utilization of diverse platforms to perform task, individually chosen and later an attempt in integrating the results. Secondly, the revision applied on the method the members should communicate. Two most appropriate approaches were c onsidered to solve the issue, namely the physical and virtual meetings in the synchronous section of communication. Third recorded issue was the asynchronous section of sharing documents. Attachments relative to professional front, from various individuals via E-mail was not found to be an commendable medium as this service restricts data transformation after a certain size of files transferred via web. To the rescue, large storage services were utilized, to which many people were not comfortable with or had a lack of experience in the same. Future Actions: Case exhibit 3 deals with the section of communication and information sharing through asynchronous meetings (Turk, France and Rumpe 2014). Two approaches were adapted namely, the face-to-face conduction and another tool of communication regarding this was virtual meet-ups, most likely, Skype, WebEx, GOTOMEETINGS and Anymeeting.com were some of the relevant platforms (Harindranath, Bernroider and Kamel 2015). Physical meetings seemed a challenge even if it is more effective. In this case, a combination of both the approaches was accepted. All the pre-mentioned platforms in relevance to exhibit 3 were used as the communication tools. While in Exhibit 4 insights the asynchronous data sharing mechanisms. The restriction on big-size files is a major challenge faced by individuals in a virtual team of computing, comprising of limitations such as duplications, errors and frustration (Robichaud et al. 2013). In relevance to the data collection, the tools such as DropBox, Google Drive, Microsoft Skydrive and Amazon Cloud Drive available on various platforms, some of them being windows, Mac Anroid, ios, Linux and likewise were used as the methodology in asynchronous data writing involving no constriction on the transferable data size (Labandeira, C.C., 2014). In context to the query of co-ordination of activities among the team members, exhibit 5 is taken into consideration to provide an analysis regarding the same. Real time projects comprise of tasks with short deadlines, which is possibly handled within one-two meetings while others were long-term with an approaching deadline of five months or more. Individuals in the team should have accessible tools to manage their milestones as well as the timelines, while simultaneously providing updates of work with the fellow members. Such an issue needs implications of software, which could provide updates relative to the real time situations, in order to avoid any errors (Schwalbe 2015). However, a possible technique could have been the Excel-sheet but then; it would isolate the updating responsibility on one person. Solutions to such situations would be Microsoft Project software, a management tool for project launching but with the requirement of often maintenance from the lead of the project . Alternate to this are the Baecamp, Ace project, Mavenlink and smart-sheet, which are some management tools for collaborative writing. Two Important Factors to Consider for Team-Based Activities: Other virtual tools could come to rescue, such as, real-time 3D collaboration, social networking and online chatting, which could provide support in updating and data transmissions (Thomson et al. 2015). Keeping in conscience, even a virtual team is comprised of real human beings with all possible exposure to errors and excellence. Two main important factors to build up an effective team would be compatible and trust-based relationships among the members each with the view of general profit and helpfulness they can provide to each other for building up a profound stature. In any given situation, a face-to-face collaboration proves to be more beneficial than a virtual one, as in the former method, each individual is more receptive and communicative towards the fellow partner (Turk, France and Rumpe 2014). Each subtle gesture could be noted and the responses could be well understood and managed. A system based on innovations could be possible as each individual could project his/her own belief and thoughts in an effective way. On analysis of the facts and data, it is well visible that to build a cohesive and effective team, trust and compatibility are the prior needs. In addition to this, for a virtual team as such in discussion, updating and innovating electronic platforms with more scopes that could be helpful in future development of organizations should be encouraged. Literacy and adjustments among members concerning such platforms is another essentiality, which could make things easier in handling and managing. Leadership should be adapted with care and excellence for promoting the general profit of a team.

In The First Article The Authors Speak About What The Major Factors Of

In the first article the authors speak about what the major factors of poverty are. The number one reason is the imbalance in the distribution of wealth because the rich are becoming richer and the poor are becoming poorer. They also say that the military also aggravates the causes because they spend so much money on valuable recourses on the production of tools and weapons that cause human destruction. The only thing I don't agree with is that I don't believe that the military are wasting that money. They are putting that money and those recourses in good use. You never know when we will get pushed into another war. Without the deadly tools for human destruction in a war we would probably get our butts kicked and then we wouldn't have to worry about anything. Race is another factor of poverty. Tools for this mechanism include segregation and discrimination. African Americans are segregated from the upper class because they don't get the higher paying jobs that the white Caucasian male receives. They also can't get a good big house even if they had the money because the landlords jack up the price of the real state. In the second article the authors talk about how the average working class is mostly ignored. Not only does the upper class ignore the so-called average working class but the media also does so. They ignore this class in the fact that on the news they always get potraid as low life drugies majority of the time. Even on talk shows they rather interview the upper class on normal topics and they interview the working class on so called problem topics. Because of this people believe that this class is nothing but low life.

A List of the Current Chinese Languages

A List of the Current Chinese Languages Mandarin is the most common language in the world as it is the official language of Mainland China, Taiwan, and one of the official languages of Singapore. Thus, Mandarin is commonly referred to as Chinese.   But in fact, it is just one  of many  Chinese languages. China is an old and vast country geographically speaking, and the many mountain ranges, rivers, and deserts create natural regional borders. Over time, each region has developed its own spoken language. Depending on the region, Chinese people also speak Wu, Hunanese, Jiangxinese, Hakka, Yue (including Cantonese-Taishanese), Ping, Shaojiang, Min,  and many other languages. Even in one province, there can be multiple languages spoken. For example, in Fujian province, you can hear Min, Fuzhounese, and Mandarin being spoken, each being very distinct from the other.   Dialect vs. Language Classifying these Chinese languages as dialects or languages is a contested topic. They are often classified as dialects, but they have their own vocabulary and grammar systems. These different rules make them mutually unintelligible. A Cantonese speaker and a Min speaker will not be able to communicate with each other. Similarly, a Hakka speaker  will not be able to understand Hunanese, and so on. Given these major differences, they could be designated as languages. On the other hand, they all share a common writing system (Chinese characters). Even though characters can be pronounced in completely different ways depending on what language/dialect one speaks, the written language is understandable across all regions. This supports the argument that they are dialects of the official Chinese language – Mandarin. Different Types of Mandarin It is interesting to note, though, that Mandarin itself is broken up into dialects spoken mostly in Chinas northern regions. Many large and established cities, like Baoding, Beijing Dalian, Shenyang, and Tianjin, have their  own particular style of Mandarin that vary in pronunciation and grammar. Standard Mandarin, the official Chinese language, is based on the Beijing dialect. Chinese Tonal System All types of Chinese have a tonal system. Meaning, the tone in which a syllable is uttered determines its meaning. Tones are very important when it comes to differentiating between homonyms. Mandarin Chinese has four tones, but other Chinese languages have more. Yue (Cantonese), for example, has nine tones. The difference in tonal systems is another reason why the different forms of Chinese are mutually unintelligible and are considered by many as separate languages.   Different Written Chinese Languages Chinese characters have a history dating back more than two thousand years. The early forms of Chinese characters were pictographs (graphic representations of real objects), but characters became more and more stylized over time. Eventually, they came to represent ideas as well as objects. Each Chinese character represents a syllable of the spoken language. Characters represent words and meanings, but not every character is used independently. In an attempt to improve literacy, the Chinese government began simplifying characters in the 1950s. These simplified characters are used in Mainland China, Singapore, and Malaysia, while Taiwan and Hong Kong still use the traditional characters.

Cultural Viewpoint of the End of Life Research Paper

Cultural Viewpoint of the End of Life - Research Paper Example Death is not a feared and neither does it worry these people. This is because in several these people, death is generally embraced and besides, others celebrate its occurrence. It is of paramount importance to note that the same way other events taking place among the Hispanics are treated as family affairs, death of individuals is similarly viewed as a family issue, and all family members are always involved irrespective of their religions. In the funeral homes that specialize in their burial ceremonies, several families bring clothes as well as dresses to the departed, while a good number of them prepare the hair of the deceased by stitching it. In addition, inside the casket is lined with fabrics and the photos of Virgin Mary are pinned in the casket, moreover, Rosaries together with jewelry, books, as well as poems are also included. A wake generally takes place just before the commencement of the funeral, which is a social event whereby time is taken in order to recall the good times the family members had with the deceased. It is very hard for Hispanics to donate the bodies of the deceased or their organs in the event of death. They are usually not willing to donate based on their religious beliefs, as they believe that an individual cannot make to heaven when some parts of his body are lacking. The rights conducted before death of an individual entails anointing the sick person and confession of sins by the individual who is dying. Besides, absolution is also conducted and a prayer as well as communion is offered to the individual, and after all these, the individual is blessed. During the death of an individual, another person must be with him or her until he dies; this is to make sure that the death does not occur when the individual is alone. They always insist that a person who is on the deathbed has company. The devotion as well as care provided by these people cannot be compared with any other culture. During the final moments of an individual, he/ she receives utmost love and care (Van, & Meleis, 2003). Burial arrangement usually commences after the demise of a person and it starts with the wake. During the wake, the family of the departed person will sit the departed’s body just to provide the dead with company. The wake is very important for these people. The family gathers just to recall the good times they had with the departed. As the wake goes on, several people will play cards. Usually, individuals are served with food as well as drinks (Cuevas, n.d). During the funeral, which priests conduct, individuals pay final respect to the departed person. People usually speak their thoughts as they also bid goodbye to the departed. In several cases, personal effects are placed into the casket together with the departed individual. Hispanics represent a huge array of cultures who may be immigrants from countries that are culturally diverse like Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Per u. Because there is no one culture for the Hispanic, there may be variations in the manner in which grieving as well as bereavement are carried out. The Hispanics usually value and have respect for those in their deathbed. In the Hispanic culture, entire families are always involved when critical life decisions are made, as they usually have very strict hierarchies in their families and these have to be honored

Reflecting on Assessment - Personal Statement Example I know that whenever we are trying to accomplish something, it is a group effort so you cannot have the results exactly as you had in mind because individual perceptions differ but on the whole it was still close to what I had wanted so I feel happy. Conflicts were common and most of the time, they were handled pretty well though it all depended on the individuals involved in the conflicts. Some of them were quite mature so they handled their issues with utmost sensitivity while others were a bit callous. But since in the end it was important to have them resolved, we refused to talk too much about them. Though it would have been better if we could discuss the way in which some of us handled conflicts. That way we can do better in future and understand our own limitations in much better way. Individual contribution was encouraged but some times some of us felt underappreciated. Though I feel that the contributions I made were acknowledged, I still feel that some of the members were acknowledged more than others. I am just not sure they really deserved it.

We Need a Traditional Chinese Medicine Essay Example for Free

We Need a Traditional Chinese Medicine Essay Kelly Ross said, â€Å"The U. S. economy was broken long before the Crash of 2008, but its weakness was temporarily papered over by a real estate bubble in the Bush years. † (Ross, 2012) It seems like that we are experiencing a financial crisis right now, but the truth is that our economy system is weaker than what we thought. How do we resolve the underlying problems? Think about China, why is China doing so well? Cheaper labor cost, lager export, or huge householder savings? Anyway, let’s go into Chinese’ core values first and then figure out the reasons which may useful for us. The Confucius is the core of Chinese culture and he is also one of the earliest economists in China. His Confucian theory has been used by Chinese governments to control their people as long as thousands years. Here is the question for today. How does the Confucius’ economics become an antidote to our economic recession? First of all, let’s talk about the Confucius’ view of wealth. His theory is based on morality and it is also the foundation of his economic thought. According to Confucius, â€Å"Riches and honours are what men desire. If it cannot be obtained in the proper way, they should not be held. Poverty and meanness are what men dislike. If it cannot be avoided in the proper way, they should not be avoided† (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p 17. ) The Confucius is teaching his students that even though we all want to get wealth, but we cannot get it via sharp practice. We should think about â€Å"Yi(? )† first which comes before gain. â€Å"Yi† can be seen as the word â€Å"righteousness† in English which is also based upon the idea of reciprocity. This idea looks like an opposite idea of self-interest. On the other hand, Adam Smith told us that â€Å"self-interest is ‘good’† (Class ppt. Kuiper. ) Self-interest can stimulate economic growth in the short run but can also bring moral issues for a long term implication. Take a look at our economy today, there are many examples showed us that the lack of supervision is the most common reason for financial crises. What are wrong with our supervision system and moral cognition? We cannot obtain every single penny from the world. If so, our desire will never be satisfied and it can lead us to blot up the resource from our descendants in the future. Money is not the purpose of our life; it is only a tool that services our life. However, this is not meaning that we should avoid wealth. The Confucius said, â€Å"If the search for riches is sure to be successful, though I should become a groom with whip in hand to get them, I will do so. As the search may not be successful, I will follow after that which I love. † (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 38. ) From this sentence we can see that Confucius is perfervid to earn gain via being an official. Therefore, if it is the right way of getting gain, then he would love to do it, even only being a low- level official with physical labor. Moreover, The Confucius said, â€Å"The mind of the superior man is conversant with righteousness; the mind of the mean man is conversant with gain. † (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p 19. ) A gentleman should understand and familiar with righteousness. In the orientation of value, the first thing a gentleman should consider is â€Å"Yi†; also, for a gentlemans virtue and morality, â€Å"Yi† is the value of life and it is very important for Confucian. Therefore, virtue and morality will be the gentlemen’s first pursuit. In addition, the Confucianism is always in a moral and political perspective to deal with problems. The Confucius said, â€Å"If a superior love propriety, the people will not dare not to be reverent. If he loves righteousness, the people will not dare not to submit to his example. If he loves good faith, the people will not dare not to be sincere. Now, when these things obtain, the people from all quarters will come to him, bearing their children on their backs; what need has he of a knowledge of husbandry? † (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 76. ) From Confucius’ words, we can see that personality trait is most important in the Confucianism. If we can build a wonderful moral system, then we will be able to obtain a political stability, and then, to have a stabile economy. In addition, even though the economy is very tied to people lives and development, it still does not become above to the moral and politician’s primary task in the Confucian. That is an upside down relationship with what we thought today, because we all treat the economy as the most important part of our society. Furthermore, one of Confucius’s points of view is advocating a frugal society and stand against luxury. He thinks that if a government wants to govern the country well, then saving and reduce spending are most important. He said, â€Å"Administration is saving. † (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 72.) This is not meaning that spending it bad, but we should also do saving as well. Our earth needs a balance as well as we does. However, it is going to lead to a severer resource shortage if we do not change our spending behavior right now. In addition, the Confucius also encourages the government into universal education after they have a stabile economy. He thinks that in order to improve the quality of people we should improve the extent and quality of education, which is a sustaining way to keep our society stabile. According to The Analects of Confucius, â€Å"‘and when they have been enriched, what more shall be done? ’ The Master said, ‘Teach them. ’† (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 77. ) Therefore, we should make our education system stronger as well as our morality system. As economic globalization from today, we are not only need abundant economic resource as our supporter; we also need to be sustained with ideological and ethical system because that is the true basis of our life. Even though there are many different kind of economic activates, productive activate is still one of the most important activates. Also, the Confucius teaches his students that economic activities should be amenable to ethics. We should regain the time which is frugal. Don’t we be touched from him? In addition, here is a sentence shows an epitome of the Confucianism â€Å"There were four things which the Master taught, — letters, ethics, devotion of soul, and truthfulness. † (Confucius, 551-479 BCE, p. 39. ) The Confucius also teaches his students that every choice, which related to praise or blame, and publicity or suppression, depends on whatever they conform to the establishment of the Confucian moral laws and political criterion. As Chinese economy growth today, we may try this â€Å"traditional Chinese medicine† which is from the Confucianism; see if it can help our economy to get better.

The Role of Sacred Space in Judeo-Christian Religions Essay -- Religio

The Role of Sacred Space in Judeo-Christian Religions Certain physical locations take on important meanings in the world’s religions. Religions consider various geographic elements such as different cities, regions, mountains, and rivers to be sacred. For example, Hindus travel to the Ganges River to cleanse themselves from their sins (Momen 157). One of the requirements of all Muslims is that they make a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca (Eastman 398). Judeo-Christian religions also have certain places that are held sacred to their followers. The concept of sacred space is important to Judeo-Christian religions, because it helps to explain the questions of existence. Sacred space provides something tangible to represent religions while reducing the obstacles that prevent religious people from having religious experiences. Judeo-Christian religions have extensive histories in which the concept of sacred space has been instrumental to their developments. Today, sacred space remains important in separating these religion s from the rest of the world. As seen in historical stories and reflected through the symbolism of religious architecture as well as in nature, sacred space is an important aspect of Judeo-Christian religions. One reason that believers of Judeo-Christian religions find certain locations to be important is that God has declared that certain places should be considered sacred. In the Book of Exodus, the Lord speaks to Moses on the mountain of Horeb, saying â€Å"Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground† (Exo. 3.5 NAB). In the Book of Genesis, God sends Abraham to the land of Moriah. â€Å"When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar t... ...stance religions from each other by fostering a feeling of superiority among some religions and inferiority among others. Judeo-Christian religions rely on sacred space to do these things for believers. Works Cited Barbour, Ian G. Religion and Science: Historical and Contemporary Issues. What is the role of engineering science in solving engineering problems?

Engineering is about ensuring the health, happiness and safety of our planet's future. Engineers are at the centre of inventing creative solutions to address these challenges head-on. Now and in the future, engineers will play a vital role in finding solutions to many of the important issues facing us today, such as global warming, energy supplies, clean water, food shortages, transport, obesity, healthcare and the ageing population.Although engineers use science and math to design or create solutions to real world problems, engineering is not really considered a science. Science is about discovering and understanding the natural, whereas engineering is about inventing, designing and implementing the artificial. Engineering is based principally on physics, chemistry, and mathematics and their extensions into materials science, solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, transfer and rate processes, and systems analysis. Engineers employ two types of natural resources, materials and en ergy.Materials acquire uses that reflect their properties: their strength, ease of fabrication, lightness, or durability; their ability to insulate or conduct; and their chemical, electrical, or acoustical properties. Important sources of energy include fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, gas), wind, sunlight, falling water, and nuclear fission. Let us take a moment to think about some things we use in our everyday life: Buildings, bridges, roads, highways and traffic lights, vehicles (buses, cars, planes and water ferries), computers and other electronic devices, none of them came into existence without engineers. We wouldn’t have been able to drive to work, check our facebook status or even use the elevators at our work places. Engineering science is used to solve problems and improve our world Problems like making your alarm go off on time or making sure your toothpaste has just the right amount of chemicals to give you that perfect smile or even ensure the right input to make a ngry birds an addictive game. Now let us look at an aeroplane, they provide a lot of examples of the importance of engineering science.Every bit of a plane has been touched by a whole team of engineers, a mechanical engineer designing engine, a mechatronic engineer designs the controls, the fuel extracted by mining engineers and refined by chemical engineers, the navigation system electrical and software engineer created those. From the Right brothers first 12th sec flight in 1903 to the invention of the jet engine, improvements in the mechanism of control in air frame construction have continued through the 20th century. Now with computers in the cockpit engaged in every aspect, flight electronics are sure to lead innovation in the future of aviation. The automobile change the way we travel but it remains an engineering work in progress so with the advancement of fuel cells and electric powered engines automobiles are certain to maintain their position at the front of technology wel l into the future. High performance materials have made possible some of the century most dazzling technological achievements like aero planes, microchips and lasers. In materials engineering atomic and molecular materials and the nano products they produce may very well make the 21st century the nano age. In the area of household appliances two major engineering innovations, resistance heating and small efficient motors lead to advancements like electric stoves, vacuum cleaners, washers, dish washers that drastically reduce the domestic workloads. A century worth of progress suggest that more innovations in advancement lie ahead. The Burj Khalifa, it is the world’s tallest building at 829. 8m high, it’s also in the world’s hottest environment reaching up to 50 degrees in summer. One of the problems in building the Burj was trying to figure out how to set 45000 cubic meters of reinforced concrete in such extreme weather. The solution was a clever method of pumping iced liquid concrete into the 55000 ton steel frame during the night. The result is a building that is vertically over 800 m high rather than horizontally all over the ground. On Saturday March 1932 the Syden Harbour Bridge was commissioned. The bridge was a marvel of civil engineering and since 1815 people had been talking of building a bridge to connect the two sides of the harbour. The problem was that the harbour was so incredibly wide and how could a bridge span such a width and support its own weight. The solution was the idea the Romans used in the past. The arched bridge works by transferring the weight into horizontal forces embracing them at the ends of the arch. Thanks to 20th century civil engineers the driving public can travel coast to coast by way of the interstate highway system. As traffic grows engineering is working to improve pavements, crash barriers and other design elements and would use new technology to improve traffic flow and safety. As the population of ci ties grew in the 20th century the challenge of clean accessible water was meet by civil engineers who created systems for water treatment and distribution leading to vast improvement in public health. As the need for clean water increases successors in water management will serve to inspire future engineers to face the challenge of improving water supply and distribution in all areas of the world.Chemical engineering and chemistry advanced in the 19th century. Through the development of electrochemistry and spectroscope many more chemical elements could be discovered. Mendelejev and Meyer independently developed the chemical law that states that the properties of all the elements are periodic functions of their atomic weights. In 1869 Mendelejev proposed the Periodic Table of Elements that classifies the chemical elements corresponding to their atomic weights. Based on this table subsequent discoveries of new elements were made which led to the completion of the table. In the 19th ce ntury chemical engineering witnessed an enormous advance in polymer technology and in the 20th century the mass production of polymers became economically feasible. These advances led to the introduction of new material, such as, plastics and fibers. As the demand grew for gasoline chemical engineers discovered a host of useful byproducts of crude oil and the petrochemical industry was born. Throughout the middle of the 20th century petroleum processing technologies allowed petrochemicals to replace environmentally harmful coal tar chemistry but environmentally issues may change the outlook of this industry in the 21st century.Scientist and Engineers learned how to make a transistor, shrink it to a microscopic size and harness it for once unimaginable powers of digital computing, control, communication, detection and display. Today engineers are exploring new architectures for these circuits and experimenting with mysterious quantum effects that might be harnessed for computation. A t the dawn of the 20th century the electric power capacity expanded rapidly while continuous innovation improves the system. As demand for the benefits of electrification continues to grow around the globe, resourcefulness remains a prime virtue.Large scale power grids are being supplemented by decentralized systems in which consumers produce some of their own power through renewable resources such as wind and solar power The first electronic computers introduced in the late 1930s were the size of large room and capable of the most basic tasks. Today PCs, Macs and laptops, I pads and smart phones are such prominent fixtures in our technologically advanced society that it is hard to imagine a future where computers don’t continue to have an increased role in almost everything we do.Beginning as a tool for academia and government and evolving rapidly into the World Wide Web open to anyone with a computer and a telephone connection, the internet has transformed the way we conduc t research, communicate and purchase items. The internet has now been such an integral part of our daily lives that the future could only bring more opportunity for us to connect with the world around us and do business. But what about the future, what problems will the engineers solve next, will we finally have affordable solar power or robots that can perform life saving surgery or a building so tall that your view is of out of space or finally engineering a working hover board. Engineering is solving problems by taking ideas out there and making them possible and when shared with the world it serves to make all of our lives better In summary we can see that throughout history engineers have taken ideas and change them into innovation.

Human Rights Violatioins in Syria - 774 Words

Syria is going through a civil war. Stephen Starr says that the Civil war is between the Sunni Muslim Rebels and most of Syrias 2 million Christians under the rule of Bashar Assad. Bashar Assad is the president of Syria, he is honestly not a bad man he thinks what the government is doing to the citizens is terrible. They have not had a whole lot of problems in their history. Syrians are trying to figure out what to do with the chemical weapons they have. The Chemical weapons are being used by the rebels, and they should not be using them at all because they are making things a lot worse in Syria. Syria is south of Turkey, north of Jordan, east of Lebanon, east of the Mediterranean Sea, and west of Iraq. They are in the Middle East. There†¦show more content†¦Syrian authorities conducted mass arrest according to the Human Rights Watch. The Human Rights Watch tells us that Syrian security officers and army detain children and hold them in inhuman ways. They all have to live in fear because they are scared of being arrested for their religion and then being tortured for it. The Christians are the biggest target for getting arrested and then tortured for their belief of religion. In Syria they get tortured and sexual assaulted but they also get murdered. In the article UN Human Rights Council Concerned about Syria says that Syria’s civil war has cost 70,000 deaths of Syria’s citizens. At least 250 victims were security forces for Syria (Schlein, Lisa. UN Investigation...). The UN Human Rights Council Concerned about Syria also said that the conflict made 860,000 Syrian’s flee the country. The massacre in Houla there were more than 100 people killed (Schlein, Lisa. UN Human Rights Violations...). Chabot mentions that his own father murdered over 20,000 citizens of Syria. Some of the people in Syria have been killed for trying to believe in the religion they want to believe in. The Christians are the biggest target for these killings and attacks and they will most likely be for a long time. The Christians now live in terror they are scared of getting murdered cause of their own beliefs (Starr). They honestly should just stand up for their b eliefs and fight back the Syrian
